Reflections/insights on your personal traits test:

Last meeting in our Technoprenuership subject, we took up a test which is a Personal Traits Test.
This Test is use to distinguishing qualities or characteristics of a person and a readiness to
act in a similar fashion in response to a variety of different situations.

Personality Traits have Five Major Personality traits to make up the essence of a person’s personality:
1. Openness: Openness refers to how open you are to experiencing new things. Do you enjoy learning new ideas and concepts or are you frightened of change?

2. Conscientiousness: Conscientiousness refers to how dedicated you are. When you say you are going to do something do you follow through? Do you have a strong work ethic?

3. Extraversion: Extraversion asks how comfortable you are in the company of others? Do you prefer to be by yourself or in a crowd? Do you like to be the life of the party?

4. Agreeableness: Do you try to get along with people or do you go out of your way to be contentious and start a fight?

5. Neuroticism: How emotionally stable are you? Do you get upset over the little things, or do they roll off your back?

As Far as I know, Personal Traits compose of Intelligent Quotient, Emotional Quotient and Adversity Quotient. Among of this, the Intelligent Quotient or simply abbreviated as IQ is the most familiar to us.

Intelligent Quotient - It is a measure of relative intelligence determined by a standardized test. The first intelligence test was created in 1905 by Alfred Binet and Théophile Simon to determine which French school children were too “slow” to benefit from regular instruction. Binet came up with the idea of mental age when he noticed that children are increasingly able to learn difficult concepts and perform difficult tasks as they get older. Most children reach the same level of complexity at about the same time, but some children are slower reaching those levels. A 6-year-old child who can do no more than a 3-year-old has a mental age of 3. Wilhelm Stern divided the mental age by the chronological age to get a “Mental Quotient.”

Mental Age/Chronological Age = Mental Quotient

We took up this Intelligent Quotient Test during the entrance exam in our school. This Intelligent Quotient Test may be very hard or difficult to answer among the two personality traits. It is because you use your mind and maybe experience as well to answer that test. I remember when I took up a Test in College; it was a very difficult test, because you are given a test that you don’t know its scope and limited time to answer it. I think Intelligent Quotient Test use to be a difficult test because it tests your stored knowledge in your brain. In order to get a high score you should be conscious or curious of all the things in your surroundings. Taking up Intelligent quotient Test requires reading, it helps refreshing your mind, and experience. In short Intelligent Quotient deals with Brain.

Emotional Quotient – From the word itself “Emotional”, Emotional Quotient Test is concentrated more about the emotional aspects or characteristics of human. Regarding the questions given it was more about commonly happen in our surroundings and what will be the response of the business personnel or an entrepreneur. Emotional Quotient deals with heart or your emotions. I took up this test in our Technopreneurship subject in our previous meeting last July 28, 2010 Wednesday. That day everyone is surprise, our facilitator inform us that we will having a test this day and the worst it is, the test is announce, we are not prepare and we don’t know what will the test looks like. According to our facilitator that test will serve as our prelim exam. If you said “TEST” first thing in your mind is difficult or hard. Just like the Intelligent Quotient Test it takes a lot of reviews and studies. But this Emotional Quotient Test is different. Emotional Quotient Test vs. Intelligent Quotients Test is the same as the Brain vs. the Heart. Taking up this test will not give you any sweat, you are given two or more situations in life, you don’t have to grind your brain to answer, and every answer you choose is right, it is because it is your choice, but the answers have different values.

Adversity Quotient- For me, it deals with how you handle a situation. It increases our capacity productivity, and innovation, as well as lower attrition and higher retention. Adversity Quotient is a measure of how you respond to adversity (change and challenges). It provides the tools for improving how you respond and thus overall professional effectiveness. At first, I am not familiar with this. I only heard this in our facilitator in Techonopreneurship subject. I have no idea of what is this; our facilitator gave us a task to take up an Adversity Quotient Test. While taking up the test, I noticed that this test not as hard as Intelligent Quotient Test but it is same as the Emotional Quotient Test. Adversity Quotient Test gives you a situations in life and you try to rate it according to what you want.

This test determines which type of people you are. It is either you belong to a

Quitter - Abandons their aspirations because it is too difficult
Camper - Grow weary of the hike and find a comfortable plateau on which to hide from adversity
Climber - Possibility thinkers who never allow obstacles to get in their way of achieving their aspirations. They never forget the power of the journey over the destination. Embrace the challenge.

Definition of AQ - CORE
          • Control:
                - How much control do you perceive to have over the adverse event?
          • Reality:
                - How far will the outcomes affect the other areas of my life?
                - Overestimating the reality of the consequences is detrimental
          • Endurance:
                - How long will the adversity last?
                - How long will the cause of the adversity last?
                - Labelling yourself as “stupid” or as a “loser” is detrimental and is difficult to reverse

Techniques For Overcoming Low AQ
         • Listen to your thought responses (are they high or low AQ?)

          • Explore all origins and ownership of the result
               - What are the possible origins of the adversity?
               - What part was my fault?
               - What specifically could I have done better?
               - What aspects should I own?
               - What aspects shouldn’t I own?

          • Analyse the evidence
               - What evidence is there that I have no control?
               - What evidence is there that the adversity will affect the other areas of my life?
               - What other evidence is there that there will be prolonged consequences?

         • Do Something
               - What additional information do I need?
               - What could I do to gain some control?
               - What could I do to limit the reach of the adversity?
               - What could I de to limit how long the adversity endures in its current state?
